Hey there! My name is Allie, and I’m a big fan of food. Cooking it, eating it, thinking about it, and photographing it. Most of the time, I’m doing one of those things.
I started Avocado Jam as a place to share some of my favorite recipes. Most of the dishes you’ll find here are healthy(ish) and easy to make during the week. I’m one of them working girls, so I don’t have all day to prepare lovely home-cooked meals each night. But I do prefer to eat homemade, for health and flavor purposes, and I think a lot of people feel the same way. So when a recipe fits those qualifications, I do my best to share it with y’all here!
My family also has some killer recipes that I just love sharing (like Nanny’s No-Bake Oatmeal Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies and Granny’s Sausage Pinwheels). I definitely wouldn’t consider these recipes to be “healthy,” but you gotta have a little fun, right?
What the heck is “Avocado Jam?”
When I first started my food blog, I had a lot of ideas about what to call it. “Allie J’s Kitchen” was too obvious, and “The Book Cook” was sure to get lost on Google (think of all those folks searching for cookbooks!). Eventually, I decided to play with my initials, AJ.
My name is Allison Jamie, and I was named after my wonderful grandfather, AJ.
His initials didn’t stand for anything, which he found to be simultaneously entertaining and frustrating. He always encouraged me to express my creativity, through writing or playing the piano or anything at all. I sure loved him a lot. And he would have loved this little blog.
So that’s the origin of Avocado Jam. And now, of course, the avocado theme runs rampant on the food blogosphere — mostly among hippies and vegans and California dudes, none of which define me in the slightest.
And I guess I ought to come up with a recipe for Avocado Jam, huh? Maybe one day. For now, I’ll be jamming in the kitchen. Probably cooking something with avocados.
